About

Safeguarding Legacy

Hamilton Hall is a search-fund and succession vehicle that finds, acquires, and successfully transitions a healthy business for owners considering a transition.

The work

What Hamilton Hall does

Finding a healthy business

Hamilton Hall searches for one healthy company to acquire. The published focus is consistent growth, recurring or measurably reoccurring revenue, double-digit net margins, and $3-15 million in EBITDA. The business should offer a product or service the team is proud of, with some “special sauce,” rather than a franchise, a heavily regulated distributorship, or a commodity.

Acquiring it for the long term

The vehicle is formed to acquire that business, backed by a group of successful, long-term focused investors. Jeff Brewer has written that he hand-picked every investor so they share his vision for the company. The stated aim is not to turn around a failing business, and not to buy a company in order to sell it quickly.

Transitioning leadership

When a transition goes forward, Jeff takes responsibility for the overall leadership of the team and operations. He is looking for a strong management team that remains with the business, and for an owner or ownership group willing to provide a transition of 6 months to 2 years. The outcome he describes is a well-paced succession, so the organization can keep its course.

Our Difference

What makes Hamilton Hall different

Succession, as Hamilton Hall describes it, is a watch change. Responsibility moves at a pace that lets the business keep its course for decades.

Long term focus

Jeff’s stated goal is a healthy, well-paced succession so the business can thrive for decades. He contrasts that aim with a private equity firm that would “rip and flip,” and with a buyer who would keep the customers and drop the employees. He has written that his ultimate goal is to buy out his investors over time and own the business outright until it is his turn to transition it in the same way.

Care for employees, customers, and partners

The site states a standard of respect, honesty, and appreciation, from the most junior employee to the senior members of a board. Jeff writes that leaders should hold themselves to a high standard, and should not ask a team to work harder than they are willing to work themselves. He treats short-term compromises as a source of long-term consequences for businesses and for people.

Integrity above all

As the son of a pastor and a military veteran, Jeff writes that he learned the value of integrity early, including in how a business is operated and how a leader serves others. He says he will not compromise that standard in this process or as the executive leader of a company. He also writes that excellence honors God and inspires people, and that he endeavors to be excellent in what he does.

One person accountable for the helm

Hamilton Hall is built around Jeff taking responsibility for leadership and operations after a transition. The investors are described as long-term partners he selected, not as a reason to replace the people who already run the company. A strong management team remaining with the business is one of the published requirements of a fit.

A healthy company, kept on course

The search is for a business that is already healthy and well led, with an engaged, honest culture. Hamilton Hall states that it is not looking to rescue a failing company. The fit also asks for a non-commodity business the team can be proud of, one that does not rely on the ignorance of the end customer to prosper.

Who uses Hamilton Hall

The pages are written for owners who are considering a transition, and for people who can introduce such an owner. The published criteria below are the audience, not a promise that every introduction will proceed.

  • Ownership groups willing to remain for a transition of 6 months to 2 years.
  • Companies with recurring or measurably reoccurring revenue, double-digit net margins, and about $3-15 million in EBITDA.
  • Teams with a distinct product or service, rather than a franchise, a heavily regulated distributorship, or a commodity business.

Our Story

The team behind Hamilton Hall

Jeff Brewer

Jeff Brewer leads Hamilton Hall. Prior to launching Hamilton Hall, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Wildman Business Group, responsible for the top line and operating income of a $65 million industrial services firm with more than 250 team members and five major divisions. He launched organic and inorganic growth plans that helped that 65-year-old company grow more than 20 percent in less than two years, and he led vendor and efficiency work that grew the bottom line by double digits while the company was growing.

He came to Wildman from the Atlanta office of Boston Consulting Group, where he was a consultant in the Strategy, Operations, and People and Organization practices. Before that he worked at General Electric, where he launched a global services business for the Digital Energy unit and created GE Oil & Gas’ Product and Service Design and Innovation Group in Florence, Italy.

Jeff served 14 years as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. His final role was teaching strategy, marketing, and leadership as an Associate Professor of Management at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, after he led the Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin as its Commanding Officer and served as supply chain leader and law enforcement officer on the Vigilant. He holds a BS in political science, with honors, from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is married and has six children.

How Hamilton Hall works

The contact form

A conversation starts with the contact form on this website. It asks for your name, email, and message, and for a company name if you want to share one. The site does not offer an online booking calendar. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email jeff@thehamiltonhall.com.

A personal reply

Jeff writes that if you are considering a transition, or you know an owner who is, he would welcome a conversation, and that he will respond personally. You are writing to him, not to a separate intake desk named on the site.

An inquiry, not a contract

Sending the form does not book a meeting, confirm a fee, or create a contract. The terms of use say that no booking or other contract is formed unless the parties later agree in a separate writing, and until then either side may decline to go further. Questions about the site itself can use the same form, and the privacy policy explains what the form collects.

A transition, if both sides continue

If a conversation continues, the published picture is an owner or ownership group who can stay for 6 months to 2 years, while Jeff takes responsibility for leadership of the team and operations. Further reading on search funds, and on culture after an owner is gone, is listed on the homepage. Those outside pages are not Hamilton Hall, and a link is not an endorsement of every sentence there.
